Offered for sale here is a first U.S. edition, 7th printing of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, signed by J.K. Rowling. The signature is a 1999 variation of her signature signed in black ballpoint pen on the title page and was signed during her second U.S. tour in October 1999, the point when the Harry Potter phenomenon was beginning to take off across the United States. The printing number of this copy being the 7th is consistent with those available for signing during this tour, which was her largest by far and as a result many examples of her 1999 American tour signatures can appear rushed.
This particular copy is unread, it remains tight and square with no toning or foxing to the text block and has very fresh, white pages. There are no marks at all internally, no ownership names, or dog-eared pages – a clean copy. Externally the boards are without marks, the corners are sharp, there is just one tiny crease to the tip of the spine. The dust jacket is a first state jacket in without the number 2 on the spine and is priced correctly at $17.95. It is not price clipped and the spine has no fading at all. It comes houses in a custom, red clamshell box, with blue inner trays and gold leaf printed to the spine.
The signature has been fully authenticated by Adam Houston ‘The HarryPotter Specialist’, widely regarded as the leading authority on authenticating J.K. Rowling’s signature. The book is accompanied by a complete authentication package, including a Letter of Authenticity and collector card.
