Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban
First UK Edition, 3rd Printing, Hardback, Signed by J. K. Rowling, Bloomsbury 1999
Offered here is a signed first UK edition, third printing of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, one of the most important and desirable titles in the series for collectors.
This particular book is signed by J.K. Rowling in black ball point pen to the dedication page. Signed copies of Prisoner of Azkaban are very scarce in any printing. This is a 2000 variation of Rowling’s signature. She conducted fewer public signing events in 1999 compared with the previous year, as the Harry Potter phenomenon was rapidly starting to take off and she didn’t have to do as much promotional activity. Instead Bloomsbury started sending out signed bookplates to book stores to help promote the book which is what is more commonly found.
The pages are bright and clean with no obvious toning to the page edges and internally there are no inscriptions or marks of any kind. The book is unread, the boards are square with sharp corners with no foxing of any kind. An exceptionally rare survival for early Harry Potter printings, which were produced on notoriously poor-quality paper stock. Aside from some minor creasing to the top and bottom of the spine, the book is in fine condition. The dust jacket itself is in fine condition protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The book comes in a custom made dark green clamshell box with purple inner trays and gold gilt lettering to the spine.
The signature comes fully authenticated by Adam Houston ‘theHarryPotterspecialist’ the world’s leading expert in authenticating Jo’s signature. It comes with a full authentication package including a letter of authenticity and collector card.
