A Set of Cormoran Strike 1-8 Books Signed by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling)
First Editions, First Printings, with Provenance, Fine Condition
A fine condition, complete first edition, first printing set of all eight Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling) Cormoran Strike novels, each authentically signed by J.K. Rowling and fully authenticated by Adam Houston, widely known as “the Harry Potter specialist” and regarded as the leading authority on J.K. Rowling’s signature. The first six volumes were meticulously acquired by Adam Houston in 2023, while volumes seven and eight were purchased directly from their original owners shortly after publication. The set is accompanied by a full authentication package including a Letter of Authenticity and collector card.
The Cormoran Strike series has become fertile ground for forgers, with numerous counterfeit signatures and holograms appearing on the market in recent years. A fully authentic, complete signed set in such exceptional condition is particularly rare.
The Cuckoo’s Calling, published by Sphere in 2013, is the first book in the series and was issued before it was publicly known that Robert Galbraith was the pseudonym of J.K. Rowling. This copy is one of the 250 examples signed at Goldsboro Books, London, prior to the revelation of the author’s identity. As such, it does not carry the J.K. Rowling hologram, which was not in use at that time. The book is accompanied by the original Goldsboro Books receipt dated 15th July 2013, showing the purchase price of £16.99. Signed copies of this title, particularly from the original pre-revelation signing, are among the most difficult to obtain.
The Silkworm, published by Sphere in 2014, is a signed first edition with the official J.K. Rowling hologram affixed to the page adjacent to the signature.
Career of Evil, published by Sphere in 2015, was signed at Foyles bookstore and does not carry a hologram, as copies signed there at the time were not issued with one. The dust jacket retains the Foyles “Signed First Edition” sticker.
Lethal White, published by Sphere in 2018, is a signed first edition with the hologram present. Signed copies of this title were not commercially available and were distributed only as competition prizes or for promotional purposes. This copy is accompanied by a handwritten note from the original recipient, Ellen, written in 2022, detailing how she won the book in a competition at Robinson’s Bookshop in Melbourne. Authentically signed copies of Lethal White are notably scarce.
Troubled Blood, published by Sphere in 2020, is likewise a signed first edition with the hologram affixed adjacent to the signature. This copy was won by Megen Kippner after entering a Facebook competition run by Hachette New Zealand on 22nd December 2020. The book is accompanied by a screenshot announcing her as the winner together with a congratulatory note from Hachette NZ. Signed copies of Troubled Blood are among the most difficult in the series to acquire.
The Ink Black Heart, published by Sphere in 2022, is a signed first edition bearing both the “Signed by the Author” sticker to the dust jacket and the official hologram on the adjacent page to the signature. It is accompanied by the original Waterstones receipt for £25, a dispatch note dated 30th September 2022, and a handwritten letter from the original purchaser, Jason Nunn, to Adam Houston.
The Running Grave, published by Sphere in 2023, is a signed first edition with the hologram present. It was purchased directly from the original owner, Garry King, who acquired the book from Waterstones on 13th October 2023. A copy of the original £25 receipt is included.
The Hallmarked Man, published by Sphere in 2025, completes the series. This signed first edition was purchased directly from the original purchaser, the company “Cards and Sneakers,” who bought the book from Waterstones on the day of release. As with the later volumes in the series, the official hologram is affixed to the page adjacent to the signature.
Taken together, this is an exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire a complete, fully authenticated set of all eight Cormoran Strike novels in first edition, first printing state, each signed by J.K. Rowling and supported by strong provenance. In a market increasingly affected by forgery, such a comprehensive and carefully documented set represents both a significant collector’s piece and a sound long-term investment.
