Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

This is an authentic signed first UK edition, first printing copy of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The book is inscribed by J.K. Rowling in black ballpoint pen to the dedication page: ‘To Kelly, with best wishes, J.K. Rowling. This is a mid-1998 variation of Rowling’s signature signed executed contemporaneously with the publication of the book, during a period in which she still used periods between the initials J and K – something that would soon be abandoned by the late summer as a more fluid signature was neccassary in order to sign books faster as the demand for signed Harry Potter books grew.

The original recipient Kelly, was a school student whose teacher had been reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone to the class. The school subsequently arranged for the pupils to attend a reading and signing event with J.K. Rowling at a Cambridge bookshop, where this copy was personally inscribed.

This is an unread copy without any colour fading to the book or dust jacket. The binding remains square and tight, the boards have sharp corners and there is only very minor bumping to the spine base. Internally there are no ownership inscriptions, no dog eared pages or unwanted pen marks of any kind. There is however a slight graze to the front free end paper (as shown in the photos). The original unclipped first edition, first-state dust jacket is in fine condition, protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. Included is a blue quarter leather blue custom clamshell box with gold gilt lettering to the spine.

The signature comes fully authenticated by Adam Houston ‘The Harry Potter Specialist’ the world’s leading expert in authenticating Jo’s signature. This book comes with a full authentication package including a letter of authenticity, collector card and hand written note from the original owner Kelly detailing the day she had her book inscribed.
