Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
First UK Edition, First Printing Paperback, Bloomsbury, Signed by J.K. Rowling
According to Bloomsbury, the paperback copy of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was published on May 28th 1999, however , contemporaneous press reports indicate that the book was actually published in January 1999, which is also the date suggested on the proof cover for the paperback edition of the book. The total number of first printing paperback copies is still unknown. Signed copies of the paperback with a ‘signed by the author’ sticker were offered for sale throughout bookshops in Scotland to help promote the release of the book, this is the likely origin of this book. There were signing events conducted for this book, however, they were few and Jo often inscribed these copies, therefore a flat signed copy, without an inscription is exceptionally rare.
This is a lovely near fine copy, unread, with a tight binding. The spine has some mild creasing and the front cover has a very small crease to the lower right corner. The page edges are mildly toned as is the case so often with these paperbacks due to the cheap paper stock used. Internally, there are no ownership inscriptions or writing of any kind with no dog eared pages, folds or creases to any of the pages. Overall this is an excellent copy with a beautiful variation of J.K. Rowling’s signature, big and bold to the dedication page in black pen to the dedication page.
The signature comes fully authenticated by Adam Houston ‘theharrypotterspecialist’ the world’s leading expert in authenticating Jo’s signature. It comes with a full authentication package including a letter of authenticity and collector card.
