Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

First US Edition, First Printing, Scholastic 2003, Hardback, Signed by J.K. Rowling

J.K. Rowling didn’t make any appearances in the United States following the release of the book in 2003.She has just recently had a baby and a tour around the US wasn’t deemed necessary as the book was already highly anticipated. Therefore, signed copies of the American edition of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix are extremely rare and are considered by collectors to be the hardest book of the US editions to acquire signed. It is believed that only a dozen or so copies were signed in 2003.

This particular copy is one of the very few copies to be signed. It was signed on October 19, at Carnegie Hall in New York City for 15 year old Nadia Mulvihill, who won free tickets in a sweepstake and attended with her mother. The were in the second row and listened to Jo read from the chapter titled ‘The Silver Doe.’ Nadia’s favourite book was Order of the Phoenix, so although almost everyone else was having their brand new copies of Deathly Hallows signed, she brought her previously read copy of Order of the Phoenix.

This copy has a neat owner’s inscription Mulvihill written in silver ink to the top left corner of the front pastedown. There are no other inscriptions or writing of any kind. The book itself has been read and has some light marks to the front and back boards. The base of the spine is bumped and has some very mild soiling that does not affect the internal pages of the book. Overall the book is in very good condition and comes with a fine dust jacket in pristine condition with full colour, no fading, protected in mylar. The book and dust jacket come housed in a blue clamshell box made purposely for this book, with the title and author’s name printed in gold leaf to the spine.

The signature comes fully authenticated by Adam Houston ‘theHarryPotterspecialist’ the world’s leading expert in authenticating Jo’s signature. It comes with a full authentication package including a letter of authenticity and collector card.
